Window Installation in Hayward, Fremont & the Bay Area

CRBA installs and replaces windows across Hayward, Castro Valley, San Leandro, Fremont, San Jose, and the greater Bay Area — retrofit replacements in stucco homes, full-frame installs when the framing needs attention, bay window builds, and window openings created as part of a remodel. As a licensed general contractor rather than a window dealer, we handle what’s behind the trim: flashing, weatherproofing, framing repair, and the interior and exterior finish work that makes a new window look original to the house. Window installation by Construction Remodeling in Bay Area

Signs Your Windows Need Replacing

  • You can feel a draft with the window closed. Failed weatherstripping, a warped sash, or a frame that’s no longer square. In Bay Area homes this shows up first in the rooms you use in the evening.
  • There’s condensation or fog between the panes. That’s a failed seal in a double-pane unit — the insulating gas is gone and the window is now performing like single-pane glass. It can’t be repaired; the unit gets replaced.
  • The house still has original aluminum single-pane windows. Extremely common in mid-century Hayward, San Leandro, and Fremont homes. Single-pane aluminum is the worst-performing window assembly still in service — it conducts heat, sweats in winter, and does almost nothing for street noise.
  • Windows are painted shut, stuck, or won’t stay open. Beyond the daily annoyance, a bedroom window that won’t open is an egress problem — code requires operable egress from sleeping rooms.
  • Street or freeway noise dominates a room. Dual-pane windows with laminated glass make a dramatic difference for homes near 880, 92, 238, or a busy arterial. This is one of the most under-appreciated reasons Bay Area homeowners replace windows.
  • There’s soft wood, staining, or paint failure around the frame. Water is getting in — usually failed flashing or caulk above the window. That’s framing damage in progress, and it’s the reason we look behind the trim before quoting.
  • Rooms are dark and the wall could take a bigger opening. Not all window work is replacement. Enlarging an opening, adding a window to a dark room, or building a bay window is structural work — headers, framing, and permits — and it transforms a room more than paint ever will.
  • You’re remodeling anyway. Windows are cheaper and cleaner to do while walls and finishes are already open. Bundle them into a whole-home remodel rather than cutting into fresh drywall and stucco later.

Our Services

Our Window Installation Services

New construction and replacement windows, installed with proper flashing and a sealed exterior.

retrofit window installation

Retrofit Window Replacement

The right answer for most Bay Area stucco homes: the new window installs into the existing frame, leaving stucco and interior trim intact. Faster, cleaner, less expensive, and no stucco patching to blend. We assess whether your existing frames are sound enough to retrofit — that’s the deciding question, and it’s answered on site, not over the phone.

Full-Frame window replacement

Full-Frame Window Installation

When the existing frame is rotted, out of square, or leaking, the whole assembly comes out down to the rough opening — new flashing, weather-resistive barrier, and proper integration with siding or stucco. More involved than a retrofit, and the only correct choice when there’s water damage behind the trim.

Bay windows and new openings

Bay Windows & New Openings

Bay windows, garden windows, and brand-new window openings in walls that never had one. Structural work: header sizing, framing, exterior weatherproofing, roof detail on bay projections, and permits. This is where a general contractor matters rather than an installer.

Window and door package

Window & Door Packages

Windows and exterior doors done together — sliders, French doors, and entry doors installed with the same flashing and weatherproofing standards. One mobilization, one scaffolding setup where needed, one crew.

Trim and casting work

Trim, Casing & Exterior Finish Work

Interior casing, sills, and stools, plus exterior trim and shutters — the finish carpentry that decides whether new windows look built-in or bolted-on. Window companies typically leave this to you; a GC finishes it.

Window repair

Window Repair & Glass Replacement

Not every window needs replacing. Failed hardware, broken sash cords, damaged screens, and single broken panes in otherwise sound frames can often be repaired for a fraction of replacement cost. We’ll tell you when that’s the honest answer.

How a Window Project Works With CRBA

1. You call, the contractor answers

Call (510) 990-9243. We ask how many windows, what type they are now, the home’s era, and whether anything shows water damage. That’s usually enough for a working range.

2. In-home measure, frame assessment, written quote

Free visit. We measure every opening, check frame condition and any moisture damage behind the trim, and recommend retrofit vs. full-frame per opening — often it’s a mix. You get a written itemized quote: windows, installation method per opening, flashing, trim, disposal, permits where required, and timeline.

3. Order, install, finish, walkthrough

Windows are made to order — expect 2–6 weeks lead time depending on manufacturer and specification. Install runs a few windows per day: removal, dry-fit, flashing and sealing, insulation, then interior and exterior trim and paint-ready finish. Old units hauled away. Final walkthrough with every window opened and closed.

Pricing

How Our Window Pricing Works

window replacement

Realistic Bay Area ranges: retrofit vinyl window replacement typically runs $900–$1,600 per window installed; full-frame installs $1,400–$2,800 per window; bay window construction $6,000–$15,000+ depending on size and roof detail. Whole-house replacements of 12–15 windows commonly land $15,000–$35,000.

What you won’t pay for:

  • An estimate or measure fee
  • A per-window average that hides which openings need full-frame work
  • Trim left unfinished for you to figure out
  • Change-order surprises — if we open a frame and find rot, you see it and re-quote in writing before we continue

Call (510) 990-9243 with your window count.

Window quotes are hard to compare because two bids for “10 windows” can mean completely different work. Ours is structured so you can see what you’re comparing:

Phone range first. Window count, current type, and home era gets you a working range.

Free in-home measure and written quote — priced per opening. Some windows retrofit; some need full-frame. We price each one for what it actually needs instead of averaging and hoping.

Five things drive the price:

  • Retrofit vs. full-frame — retrofit is substantially less per opening; full-frame adds removal, flashing, weather barrier, and stucco or siding integration
  • Window type and size — a standard slider is the baseline; casements, double-hungs, large picture windows, and bay windows climb from there. Bay windows are structural projects, not window swaps
  • Frame material and glass spec — vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum-clad wood, and wood run in ascending order; laminated glass for noise and Low-E coatings add cost and are usually worth it near freeways
  • Condition behind the trim — rot repair, framing correction, and stucco work. This is the change-order risk in window jobs, which is why we look before quoting
  • Trim and finish scope — interior casing and exterior trim to match existing profiles, plus paint-ready or finished. Window dealers often exclude this entirely; compare quotes carefully on this line

Window Installation FAQ

How much does window replacement cost in the Bay Area?

In 2026, retrofit vinyl window replacement in the Bay Area typically runs $900–$1,600 per window installed, and full-frame replacement $1,400–$2,800 per window. A whole-house project of 12–15 windows commonly totals $15,000–$35,000. Cost depends on installation method, window type and size, glass specification, and any frame repair found behind the trim.

What's the difference between retrofit and new-construction window installation?

A retrofit (or insert) installation places the new window inside the existing frame, leaving stucco and interior trim undisturbed — faster, cleaner, and less expensive. A full-frame or new-construction installation removes the entire assembly down to the rough opening, allowing new flashing and weather barrier. Retrofit works when existing frames are sound and square; full-frame is required when there's rot, water damage, or the frame is out of square. Most Bay Area stucco homes are good retrofit candidates.

How long does window installation take?

Installation itself moves quickly — a crew typically completes 4–8 windows per day, so most whole-house projects take 2–4 days. The longer part is manufacturing: windows are made to order, with lead times of 2–6 weeks after the order is placed. Bay windows and new openings take longer because of framing and exterior work.

Do I need a permit to replace windows?

Usually yes for replacement in most Bay Area cities, and always when you change the size of an opening, add a new window, or build a bay window. Permits also involve Title 24 energy compliance for the glass specification. CRBA handles permits as part of the project.

Will new windows actually reduce my energy bills?

They help, but manage expectations honestly: replacing single-pane aluminum with modern dual-pane Low-E windows produces a noticeable comfort improvement and a real but modest utility saving in the Bay Area's mild climate. The bigger wins here are comfort (no drafts, no cold glass), noise reduction, and eliminating condensation. If a salesperson promises the windows will pay for themselves in energy savings in a few years, be skeptical.

Do new windows help with noise?

Yes, significantly — and this is one of the best reasons to replace windows in the Bay Area. Dual-pane windows with laminated glass substantially reduce traffic and freeway noise. If your home is near 880, 238, 92, or a busy street, ask specifically about laminated glass rather than standard dual-pane; the upgrade cost is modest and the difference is dramatic.

Can you replace just one window?

Yes. Single-window replacement is common for a failed seal, a broken sash, or storm damage. Per-window cost is higher than a whole-house project because mobilization is fixed, but there's no minimum-order requirement.

Should I repair or replace my windows?

Repair when the frame is sound and the problem is hardware, weatherstripping, a broken sash cord, or a single cracked pane in an otherwise good unit. Replace when the seal has failed (fog between panes), the frame is rotted or out of square, or the windows are original single-pane aluminum. We'll tell you which yours are during the estimate — sometimes a $200 repair is the right answer.

Do you install bay windows?

Yes. Bay and garden windows are structural projects rather than window swaps: they need proper header sizing, framing, a small roof structure with correct flashing, insulation, and permits. That's general contractor work, and it's why window-only companies frequently decline it.

Do you finish the interior and exterior trim?

Yes, and it's the difference most homeowners don't think to ask about. Interior casing and sills, exterior trim, stucco or siding integration, and paint-ready finish are part of our scope. Many window dealers install the unit and leave the trim to you or a separate contractor — worth checking on every quote you compare.

Can you add a new window where there isn't one?

Yes. Adding a window means cutting the opening, sizing and installing a structural header, framing, exterior weatherproofing, and interior finish — all permitted work. It's one of the highest-impact changes you can make to a dark room, and it's frequently done as part of a larger remodel.

Can windows be replaced during a remodel?

Yes, and that's the ideal time. Walls, trim, and finishes are already open, so integration is cleaner and you avoid cutting into new drywall or freshly patched stucco later. We coordinate windows into whole-home remodels and room additions routinely.

We had our master and second bathrooms remodeled by Ray and his team. Our foreman was Alex. We had the rooms stripped down to the studs. New floor, new drywall, new electric, new bathtub and shower, new wall tiles, and all the furnishings. We provided detailed plans, layouts, and furnishings list. Overall we are very happy with the result. Alex was very detail oriented, and was always ready to make a change if something wasn't going to work for us. His drywall, paint, and trim work were excellent. Tile work was very good as well. He and his team were very respectful of our space and did their best to keep things clean (but any remodel makes a mess!) Ray was very responsive to my questions and was easy to get a hold of. Always friendly and easy going. At the end of the project our bathrooms were complete all the way down to the details I laid out in a plan. The value for their work is excellent - we had another contractor bid 50% more and I seriously doubt they could do 50% better! Did everything go perfect? No... do I think it would have gone better with another company? Nope! However, when there are problems the most I can ask for is solutions, and Ray and Alex worked with us to solve them. Also the timeline of the work went longer than expected. This may have been mitigated by more workers on some days, but sometimes you can't rush good work.

I can’t say enough good things about Ray and his crew for my kitchen and two bathrooms remodel. Under Nino’s leadership, the team showed up every day for six weeks and finished right on schedule. Nino was on-site daily, guiding the crew with skill and care, and Ray stopped by weekly to check quality control and personally ensure I was completely satisfied. They went above and beyond by relocating my kitchen sink and dishwasher to create a much better layout, and they also moved the master bathroom plumbings to improve that space as well. Furthermore, they replaced my subpanel because the old breakers has become obsolete. The results are great—my kitchen and bathrooms look absolutely beautiful. Without a doubt, I will hire Ray for any future projects.

Ray and his team recently remodeled our bathroom. From the start to finish it was a great experience. Ray was available throughout the design appointment and helped us make the right selections.
